Hi, I'll write up a quick story in compositions so you're fully met with everything, if you just want a TL;DR version, read the highlighted parts.

Intro

I was in IceOps back in 2012, playing cod4 every day without any problems, smoothly and nicely. Since this was nearly 5 years ago I'm not sure what happened or what could have I done to cause this problem, but if I remember correctly the issue appeared out of nowhere. It started out slowly, dropping FPS every 10-15 seconds from a almost-locked 125 FPS to 90-100 FPS, and it didn't seem much of a problem. Although, after playing the game for half an hour, the FPS drops were dropping quicker and quicker, every 5-8 seconds to unplayable 60-70 FPS, and that's just not something you want while being the Obscurity. I did my best to fix it, tried cleaning my PC, reinstalling cod4, basically anything I could come up with. Eventually, I've quit. It was pointless to play the unplayable, hence I left IceOps as well.

Real deal

Few months ago I came back to IceOps, as after getting Windows 10 and a new SSD that replaced my hard drive I was most certain the issue was gone. As thought so, it turned out to be true. The FPS in game was pretty stable, no FPS drops on sight, everything perfect (except I got the pirate version that has it's own customized .iwd files....). However, after these ~5 months of playing the issue came back. Again, out of nowhere, no reason for it to be happening. It started happening on Obscurity server, same as before, first the FPS drops are small and go every 10-15 seconds, and after a while it goes faster and FPS drops lower. It is not only on Obscurity server it's happening though, it also happens on Hide and Seek, and freeze tag. I'm not sure if it's on every server (will check today/tomorrow) but it is really big of an issue as I cannot play.

That is pretty much it, and I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. If you have any questions or interests please leave a reply and I'll answer in no time.

So far i know this could be 3 things..

  • overheated Computer
  • You need a new update for your videocard
  • Or the videocard it self is damaged/broken

Goodluck with finding out, i had this before with another game and my answer was the last one.

If some one else knows what else it could be then help this guy so he can play smooth !

dude that is still decent...
-have you tried other server that are not iceops? could also be a server to client issue.
-and as wolfman mentioned, make sure you updated all the drivers..

-running as administrator may help aswell

-try to scan your pc for malware(that might get a lot of background processes up), Malwarebytes is verry good in this https://nl.malwarebytes.com/

Same as Wolfman said but perhaps check for driver updates. Also identify which computer part is causing the issue - find a program to monitor your components, usually meant for benchmarking games. Or just open task manager and see if you're processor for instance is running at 100% - that could be an issue. Anyhow, that's what I'd try first.

Try:

- Scan for malware (this is usually the case)

- Update your drivers

- Clean your PC and use some temp monitoring program to check for overheating.

If it doesn't help it's probably bad:

I see you have electric degree so you should have some multimeter laying around right?

Check the voltage and amps for you GPU connector, your PSU might be dying. Or just test GPU in some other PC if available. It could also be faulty GPU but I seriously doubt it as your problems went away after windows reinstall and drive swap.

So most likely it's either malware or failing PSU.
